Is God really THAT serious about purity?

Yes, God is THAT serious about purity. He has to be because He is perfectly pure---perfectly perfect! He cannot stand impurity and we should do everything we can to avoid impure things. Here is how serious He is about being pure:

"To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace" (Romans 8:6).

Spiritually speaking, "the flesh" is our sin nature. It is what we are born with and constantly wanting to please. "The flesh" says, "If it feels good, do it!! It's your body, you can do what you want with it!" The flesh says, "It's not hurting anyone else... my boyfriend and I are committed to each other and plan on being together for a long time." The flesh says, "Nobody needs to know. This is just us." The problem with the flesh is that it ALWAYS lies. And the worst part about the flesh is that we usually believe it AND it hurts God's heart. Start today by combatting the lies you believe with God's word. You can identity those lies by comparing them to Scripture.

"Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life" (Galatians 6:7-8).

Living a life filled with immorality is usually very secretive. SO secretive, in fact, you can even be fooling yourself! Do not be fooled--the things you do in secret will reveal themselves and as God's Word says--it reaps corruption!

"But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires" (Romans 13:14).

No provision means none---not "a little every once in a while because you deserve it." Not "in moderation." It literally means to not give any ounce of gratification to the flesh and the way to do that successfully is by putting OFF your desires and replace them by putting ON goodness and righteousness--not because of your own goodness or morality, but because of how perfect Jesus is and how He covers you with righteousness--in spite of our ugliness. Keep in mind, it is impossible to be perfect in this life. The only One who could live a perfect life was Christ. That is exactly why God has so much grace for us. He covers us with grace when we fail, but it does not give us license to keep on sinning. It gives us the motivation to keep on pleasing Him more than we please ourselves!

"Flee the evil desires of your youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart" (2 Timothy               2:22)

"Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of  God is coming" (Colossians 3:5-6)

"But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people" (Ephesians 5:3)
